Welcome to the blog!

Welcome to Work Her Way, my little corner of the internet made for fellow dream chasers and personal development junkies on their quest for self-discovery and intentional career and life design. ✨

personal development

Hi, I'm Amber! 😊

Your 30-something self-proclaimed personal development junkie, with a relentless goal of building the life of my dreams! 🚀

Picture this: a girl with big ambitions (and an even bigger collection of self-help books) desiring more from life than the 9 to 5 grind – that’s me!

After years of trying to climb the corporate ladder and navigating the wild uncertainties of the professional world, I decided to flip the script and create my own narrative.  More on my story below.

My story 📖

Once upon a time in the corporate world, I was the master of juggling multiple tasks, each more mundane than the last. If you could major in staring blankly at spreadsheets, I’d have a PhD by now. 🎓 It was like living in a never-ending episode of “The Office,” minus the laughs.

This endless cycle of meaningless responsibilities left me believing that this was really the best I could do. An inner voice, however, convinced me to keep pushing… until I finally discovered the golden ticket to success – obtaining a master’s degree!

Spoiler alert: it was not the golden ticket. After going back to school to pursue a new career in Marriage and Family Therapy, I realized I was doing it for entirely the wrong reasons (I thought it would lead to instant “success” and fulfillment, I wanted to prove myself, etc.). Needless to say, it was a massive flop that drained my pockets of two semesters of tuition. 😩

But, in the midst of my cubicle-induced crisis and failed college attempt I noticed I was finally starting to let go of my outdated notions about success. The traditional linear path of formal education ➡️ job ➡️ climbing the corporate ladder ➡️ dream life, didn’t feel so mandatory to me anymore. I finally understood that success doesn’t have to look this way for everyone.

Since then, I’ve changed the way I think entirely. I now view my professional development kind of like a fun game – where each mundane task is like a power-up, a checkpoint on the way to my dream life, or a step towards my ultimate goal.

This simple mindset shift changed so much for me. What once felt like the world’s most meaningless tasks, now seemed like investments in myself and opportunities to grow into the person I wanted to become. Suddenly, I noticed that I was feeling much happier and I was accomplishing way more than I ever had before.

This is what inspired me to start this blog. I want other women who feel stuck in their careers to feel the shift that I felt!

Sure, I’m still on my journey, but the difference is, I’ve traded dread for excitement. I’m a work in progress, but aren’t we all? 🙋🏽‍♀️ So here I am, on a mission to inspire others to rewrite their narrative and realize that every small step is a victory towards their dream life.

My hope is to inspire other women to realize that no matter your current circumstances, there are always opportunities to build a more fulfilled life. So let’s celebrate our small wins together and lay the foundation for a life that we can be truly proud of. 💖 #GameOnLife 💪🏽

My core values:

I have so many! If I had to choose a few, I’d say optimism, health, authenticity, personal growth, connection, leading a purposeful life, and, of course, embodying playfulness and fun along the way!

My current goals:

Getting to know myself on a deeper level, mastering my handstands once and for all, developing stronger connections with the people I care about, going on more outdoor adventures (including outdoor roller skating 🛼), and really starting to enjoy life in the present moment!

My biggest obstacle to overcome:

For the longest time, I struggled to believe that I could have more for myself. In an attempt to appear humble and modest, I inadvertently made myself feel small. The fear of drawing attention or standing out from the crowd held me back, as I dreaded the notion of being perceived as vain or too self-centered. This mindset hindered my ability to embrace opportunities. My biggest challenge now is overcoming these limiting beliefs so I can finally reach my true potential.
